Element enlisted TJOA to develop the custom perforated panels for the scrim on CSU Hydro Building. We worked with Element to first identify the panel extents then developed a labeling scheme for panelization, labeling, and installation.
The Hydro building has two different scrim patterns, A and B, where B is a standard perforated panel and A is a custom perforation designed by HCM with ‘hanging chads’ that track across the wave geometry. TJOA not only had to develop the logic and scripting for both panels but also create the return flanges for the panels and the anchorage interface to back to the primary scrim structure.
To complicate the process, select panels would span across multiple floors before meeting a dead-load anchor and other panels required splice plates connecting different wave geometries that were not co-planar. Ultimately, TJOA was successful in developing a script for automating the DXF production for fabrication.
